Goal
When I was little, my grandma tried to teach me how to knit. I tried and I didn't really get into it. As I've gotten older, I've wanted to learn. My goal is to make a new scarf for the winter using different stitches. I'm excited to get learning.
Challenges
I'm a pretty visual learner so I knew I had to find a class or someone who could teach me to knit. As I was doing my research, I found that the classes were pretty pricey! I also had Parent Teacher Conferences this week so I didn't have much time to go to a class. I found a Youtube channel for beginning knitting so I went to Michael's and bought some yarn and needles, turned on Youtube, and got started!
I realized I had some knitting schema from when I learned before. I remembered how to start off, how to hold the needles, etc, but I think it's pretty safe to say it ended up being a mess. I ended up fraying the yarn and really frustrated. I realized I would learn better by bucking down and just signing up for a class.
I did some more research and found a place in Salt Lake called "Blazing Needles". It's a really fun little shop that is full of yarn and I think every knitting accessory you may need. They offer free beginning knitting classes on Saturday morning, so I will go back tomorrow. I bought some yarn, needles, and other supplies a helpful employee suggested I get to help be successful. I'm excited to head back and hopefully this time I will have some success.
